Bridgestone continues its active membership of the European Pact for Youth

  • Pact for Youth is a mutual engagement of business and the European Union leaders
  • Bridgestone Europe actively involved since 2015
  • Reflects the People priority of Bridgestone’s “Our Way to Serve” commitment
On 12 July in Brussels, Martha White, Vice President, Human Resources and CSR, Bridgestone EMEA, joined other executives from business and NGOs across Europe to reaffirm their commitment to the European Pact for Youth. The meeting was co-chaired by Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, and Viscount Etienne Davignon, Belgian Minister of State and President of CSR Europe and featured a speech delivered by Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.

At the meeting, the leaders of the Pact introduced their third Joint Proposal entitled “Mainstreaming Entrepreneurship in Learning”. The proposal lays out actions that can be taken to provide young learners with a solid opportunity to develop the transversal and soft skills that are fostered through entrepreneurial education. It further recommends the permanent establishment of a pan-European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning.

It was also reported that progress is being made towards the targets that were established by the Pact in November 2015.

Reflecting on Bridgestone’s contribution, Martha White said: “Bridgestone EMEA is committed to supporting the goals of the Pact for Youth and we have demonstrated this through sponsorship of nearly 200 apprenticeships and internships. We also focused on attracting new graduates through our One Day with Bridgestone program. Additionally, we are actively partnering with universities and secondary schools to sponsor learning opportunities that will build technical skills, provide coaching and feedback to students, and hopefully improve employability.”

Further details on the event can be found in the official press release.
