Bridgestone Europe issues updated “Environmental Commitment and Performance” brochure

March 3, 2010

Bridgestone Europe has released its updated environmental report setting out the company’s commitment to high environmental standards and the latest steps to achieve them.

This is the third edition of the brochure. Bridgestone Europe issued the first edition in 2006, and from the beginning there was strong interest from a wide range of groups including government authorities, journalists, businesses consumers and investors. There was an immediate demand to have the brochure translated into the main European languages.

Until now, the report has centered on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) which is the environmental impact of tyres from their manufacture to their disposal at the end of their life. This is called the cradle to grave approach. By fully evaluating the LCA, Bridgestone has improved its environmental impact through product design, raw materials selection, manufacturing processes and energy use. These improvements are reported in the Environmental Commitment and performance brochure.

In this latest edition, Bridgestone has added more information about its new Ecopia range of tyres. Ecopia tyres have been specifically designed to have less rolling resistance, thereby contributing to lowering both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Bridgestone Europe has been encouraged by the interest in its Environmental brochure, which is also available as a download from the Bridgestone Europe website. Work has already begun to issue a new edition before the end of 2010.
