Bridgestone races to 12th straight win at Suzuka 8 Hours

Teams racing on Bridgestone tyres dominated the Suzuka 8 Hours motorcycle endurance race in Japan on 30th July. Three different motorcycle brands shared the podium but there was only one brand of tyre between them: Bridgestone.

Bridgestone-equipped Yamaha Factory Racing Team took the chequered flag for the third consecutive year, followed by Kawasaki Team Green. The third step of the podium went to F.C.C. TSR Honda team, fully contracted to Bridgestone for the Endurance World Championship (EWC) series.

This result marks the 12th consecutive year that a Bridgestone-equipped team has won the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hours, the final race in this season’s FIM EWC series.

Bridgestone’s other fully-contracted team for the EWC series, Austrian-based Yamaha Official EWC Team (YART) secured 5th spot at Suzuka, giving YART a podium 3rd place in the final standings of the FIM Endurance World Championship 2016/2017.

Nico Thuy, Head of Europe - Motorcycle, at Bridgestone Europe comments: “Congratulations to all Bridgestone teams, including YART for securing a podium place in this year’s EWC series. Tyres need durability and grip to succeed in endurance racing and Bridgestone has demonstrated that it has both. Now we will focus on next year’s EWC series and the first race, Bol d’Or in France.”

Bridgestone, the world’s largest tyre and rubber company, announced its return to top-tier motorcycle racing in February 2017, with its decision to supply two teams in the prestigious FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) series: Austrian-based YART Yamaha Official EWC Team, and the F.C.C. TSR Honda team.

The FIM EWC is a worldwide championship competition consisting of five races: two in France and the remaining three in Germany, Slovakia, and Japan. The Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race at Japan’s Suzuka circuit on 30th July 2017 was the fifth and final race of the current season which began in September 2016.
