launch ski season 2014-2015

Bridgestone, the world’s number 1 tyre and rubber manufacturer and a major sponsor of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, is set to take its association with the pinnacle of winter sport to even greater heights this season.

As part of a comprehensive new winter campaign, Bridgestone will be sponsoring even more events than ever before during the 2014/15 season which kicks off this weekend in Austria. In fact, spectators and enthusiasts will be able to see the Bridgestone logo on start huts, gate flags, bibs and panels at even more races than before across Europe. A dedicated promotional stand will also be set up at several events, including the season opener in Sölden. In addition, the now infamous “rubber skier” statue will also be present at many of the events; a symbol of Bridgestone’s on-going commitment to the sport. Indeed, as consumer awareness of the superior safety of winter tyres continues to grow, Bridgestone’s sponsorship of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup emphasises more strongly than ever the links between premium performance on the slopes and out on the roads.

Thrilling sports performance
The 2014/15 Audi FIS Ski World Cup season is Bridgestone’s fourth as a major event sponsor. As always, it promises to deliver plenty of thrilling action from the world’s best alpine athletes, including the German downhill skier, Fritz Dopfer who will once again be sponsored by Bridgestone this season. The season begins this weekend in suitably grand fashion with the Men’s and Ladies’ Giant Slalom in Sölden on 25 and 26 October 2014.

Jake Rønsholt, Managing Director for the Consumer Business Unit at Bridgestone Europe: “The challenges of winter driving are similar to those of alpine skiing. Both require superior control, balance, safety and grip which is why we are proud to sponsor the Audi FIS Ski World Cup for the fourth year running. Bridgestone already invests a great deal in developing the most advanced technologies to ensure the highest levels of performance and safety on winter roads and has achieved extremely good results yet again in leading independent winter tyre tests. So in many ways, the start of the World Cup is the icing on the cake for Bridgestone.”

Vastly superior safety
Bridgestone’s sponsorship of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup is just part of the company’s on-going investments in raising awareness for the superior safety of winter tyres. It coincides with a comprehensive corporate advertising campaign, getting the message across that of all the safety systems available on cars today, tyres are the only ones that actually touch the road. To reinforce that message during the winter season when grip is more important than ever to ensuring road safety, Bridgestone has developed a new promotional stand especially for the 2014/15 season which will be erected for the first event in Sölden as well as Semmering, Munich, Saalbach and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Visitors to the stand will not only be able to discover the safety and performance advantages of Bridgestone’s winter and summer tyres but also take part in fun, interactive activities such as a photo booth and a competition to win an Audi A1 shod, naturally, with Bridgestone tyres. A MotoGP™ corner will also highlight Bridgestone’s other major sponsorship in Europe, yet another arena where grip, high-speed precision and control means the difference between winning and losing.

Change to winter time… Change to winter tyres!
The launch of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup season also signals the starting shot for European motorists to make the switch to winter tyres. As consumers are becoming increasingly aware, winter tyres offer vastly superior braking, handling and performance in winter conditions compared with summer tyres and are an essential part of ensuring safety on the roads. Winter tyres are not only immeasurably more effective on frozen surfaces, they also provide better grip and safety in all winter conditions. External and internal testing repeatedly demonstrates that on snow, the braking distance of a summer can be almost three times longer than premium Bridgestone winter tyres!

Top marks for Bridgestone winter tyres
That is why Bridgestone invests heavily, not only in comprehensive awareness campaigns, but also and primarily in developing the state-of-the-art technologies that deliver superior safety, even in the most extreme Nordic conditions. Proof of the success of those investments have come most recently in the form of top results in several leading independent winter tyre tests.

Several Bridgestone premium winter tyres have namely been awarded the highly coveted “very recommendable” rating by the German Automobile Club (ADAC), including Bridgestone’s flagship winter touring tyre, the Blizzak LM001, and the Firestone Winterhawk 3, also manufactured by Bridgestone, which received the rating ahead of many premium competitor tyres in its segment. Bridgestone’s flagship winter tyre for SUVs, the Blizzak LM80 EVO also received a “very recommendable” rating from Auto-Bild ALLRAD for, among others, its very good performance on snow while the Blizzak LM32S winter touring tyre also earned Auto-Bild’s recommendation. Together with Bridgestone’s sponsorship of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, these impressive results represent firm confirmation of Bridgestone’s ongoing commitment to road safety in all conditions, in all seasons and in all climates.
