Flagship Firestone Winterhawk 3 Ranked Third in ADAC Winter Tyre Test

Top rates for wet and snow performance and fuel consumption

The latest independent winter tyre test results signify yet another outstanding performance by Firestone’s flagship winter tyre, the new Winterhawk 3. Jointly conducted by three of Europe’s leading automobile clubs - ADAC, TCS and ÖAMTC – the 2013 Winter Tyre Test ranked the Winkerhawk 3 a joint second overall in the tyre size 185/60 R15 T thanks to its excellent all-round performance on snow, ice and in wet and dry conditions.

The Firestone Winterhawk 3 finished on a score of 2.1 a mere 0.1 points behind the leader from a considerably higher price bracket. As such, the Winterhawk 3 delivered by far the best performance for its price from the field of 17 winter tyres tested.

“Very well balanced, exceptionally good on both dry and wet roads, good ice performance, minimal wear.” (ADAC Winter Tyre Test 2013, 09/2013)

With these outstanding results, ADAC joins other independent bodies in offering praise for the Winterhawk 3. The surprise performer in the combined 2013 ACE and GTÜ Winter Tyre Test, the Firestone Winterhawk 3 came in in first place for value for money and all-round winter performance out of the 9 tyres tested in the 185/60 R 15 bracket by the renowned European Automobile Club and German Neutral Inspection Organisation GTÜ.

Jake Rønsholt, General Manager, Corporate and brand Communications, Bridgestone Europe: “Firestone has been all about innovation throughout its 100 years of existence. And we have put everything we have into striking the right balance between safety, efficiency and winter performance in the new Winterhawk 3. The latest test results are a reward for all the hard work but also a strong sign that performance can go hand in hand with great value for money.”

Time to change over to winter tyres
These test results are published as the time for changing over to winter tyres approaches in Europe. As temperatures drop and the time to switch to winter tyres rapidly approaches, consumers pay a great deal of attention to independent test results when choosing the right tyre for their conditions, vehicle type and driving style.

Winter tyres are not only immeasurably more effective than summer tyres on frozen surfaces, they also provide better grip and safety in all winter conditions. Bridgestone internal testings as well as some conducted by a third party* show that on snow, the braking distance between a summer and winter tyre can be almost three times longer for a summer tyre!

This is why, Bridgestone, as a tyre manufacturer, strongly recommends changing to winter tyres not just when snow falls but already when cold weather strikes.
