Bridgestones Blizzak Winter Tyre Range Gains Traction with Experts

Vastly superior tear resistance and lower rolling resistance.

Bridgestone’s continuous investments in developing safe, reliable and high-performance winter tyres continue to pay dividends as its Blizzak LM-32 winter tyre earns high praise from two well respected German automobile magazines. Representing the pinnacle of Bridgestone’s expertise in tread and compound technology, the Blizzak LM-32 performed extremely well in the latest independent tests, earning the label of “highly recommended” from Autozeitung and ends 4th out of 50 tyres in AutoBild.

Autozeitung recommendation

Tested by Autozeitung on a Volkswagen Golf (in size 195/65 R15 T) under extreme winter conditions in Lapland and New Zealand, Bridgestone’s Blizzak LM-32 demonstrated excellent traction and braking performance on snow, good resistance to aquaplaning on wet surfaces and all-round reliable handling and response in a variety of conditions. Autozeitung were particularly impressed with the Blizzak LM-32’s performance on snow:
“Thanks to the new compound Bridgestone now has noticeably more grip and offers the best value in the braking test. Builds up high traction nicely with a low slip ratio.” (Autozeitung, 27/09/2013)

The Blizzak LM-32 was also cited as delivering “an overall respectable performance” in wet-weather conditions and “predictable and easy handling as well as good comfort and low-noise performance” in the dry. In the overall classifications, Bridgestone’s Blizzak LM-32 comes “highly recommended as a well-balanced winter tyre thanks to its improved compound.”

Autobild endorsement
And to demonstrate that these results are no coincidence, the Blizzak LM-32 is also the subject of high praise from another leading independent magazine, AutoBild. In test results due to be published on 2 October 2013, the Blizzak LM-32 ranks 4th in a star-studded field of 50 winter tyres tested:
“The Blizzak LM-32 is a winter tyre with safe but sporty driving behaviour on wet and dry with short snow and wet-weather braking distances, good value for money.” (AutoBild, 02/10/2013)

Blizzak – a history of excellence
The impressive results of the Blizzak LM-32 come straight after similar successes less than 1 year ago. In 2012, the Blizzak LM-32 was ranked highest by AutoBild*1 where its competitive performance on snow, wet and dry ensured it was one of only 3 brands out of 42 to receive the highest rating of “very recommendable”. The Blizzak LM-32 was also ranked highest for snow performance by Europe’s leading automobile club ADAC/ÖAMTC/TCS*2, beating 10 other competitors in earning the “recommended” label.

The Blizzak LM-32s was awarded the TÜV SÜD*3 seal of approval for its wet performance and established it as clear winner in wet braking, lateral wet grip and straight-line aquaplaning resistance.

The Blizzak LM-80 was on top in Germany’s ADAC/ÖAMTC/TCS 2012 winter SUV/CUV tyre tests*4, gaining the coveted “very recommendable” label from Europe’s largest federation of automobile clubs and also claimed the n° 1 spot in ACE (Auto Club Europe) and GTÜ (German Association for Technical I

Blizzak tyres are developed and tested at Bridgestone’s European winter proving ground at Vidsel, northern Sweden. More than 170 million Blizzak tyres have been sold worldwide since the brand’s introduction in 1988.

Time to change over to winter tyres
These test results are published as the time for changing over to winter tyres approaches in Europe. As temperatures drop and the time to switch to winter tyres rapidly approaches, consumers pay a great deal of attention to independent test results when choosing the right tyre for their conditions, vehicle type and driving style.

Winter tyres are not only immeasurably more effective than summer tyres on frozen surfaces, they also provide better grip and safety in all winter conditions. Bridgestone internal testings as well as some conducted by a third party*5 show that on snow, the braking distance between a summer and winter tyre can be almost three times longer for a summer tyre!

This is why, Bridgestone, as a tyre manufacturer, strongly recommends changing to winter tyres not just when snow falls but already when cold weather strikes.
