Firestone unveils the world largest agricultural tyre

On display for the first time in Europe at the Agritechnica fair in Hanover, 13th to 19th November 2011, will be the world’s largest-ever agricultural radial tyre: the new Firestone DT23 in size IF850/75R42.

Manufactured by Firestone in the USA, the giant DT23 is designed for the world’s new-generation of heavy tractors with more than 500 horsepower.

With an overall diameter of 2.32 metres, the DT23 has an 850/75 SECTION/aspect ratio and rim size of 42 inches (107 cm). It weighs 510 kg and has a load capacity of 9.5 tons at speeds of up to 50 kph inflated at 1.6 bar.

Higher farm efficiency

“As larger farm operations grow in Europe, farmers are looking for more efficiency from their machinery. The Firestone DT23 is designed to maximize the performance and efficiency of today’s most powerful tractors” says Rafal Spirydon, Senior Manager AG Sales&Marketing, Bridgestone Europe.

The DT23 employs Firestone’s new AD² “Advanced Deflection Design” technology which allows the tyre to carry a higher load, with a larger footprint than standard radial tyres.

Improved traction

This larger footprint gives farmers a number of advantages: improved traction, which leads to less time in the field and reduced fuel consumption; reduced soil compaction, which is especially valuable with heavier machinery; and a greater load capacity compared to standard radials at the same inflation.

Firestone is the leading worldwide tyre in the agricultural sector and has a strong position with radial tyres in Europe. The range of Firestone agricultural tyres covers all types of farm usage and is particularly competitive for today’s heavier and faster vehicles.

…The world’s biggest agricultural tyre can be seen on the Firestone stand, Hall 9 at Agritechnica, Hanover, from 13th to 19th November 2011.
